I believe everyone deserves to have their story told because each unique experience shared will connect with readers in ways you do not expect.
I am an Author Accelerator-certified nonfiction and memoir book coach, writer, and editor based in Rochester, New York. Since I learned the alphabet, I’ve been writing stories: scribbling fairy tales in spiral notebooks and going over the required word count on every school assignment.
My overabundance of words eventually paid off when I majored in Creative Writing at Canisius College and became the co-editor-in-chief of the college’s literary magazine: the Quadrangle. I also discovered there that memoir was my specialty, not fairy tales.
Through traumatic personal and familial experiences with mental illness, I became involved in mental health activism, specifically with how literacy can inspire positive change in the industry. I am the Regional Literacy Director (Rochester) for Madwomen in the Attic, a grassroots feminist mental health and madness literacy and advocacy organization.
I passionately believe that through our shared written experiences, about mental health, grief, or other trauma, we can form cross-cultural bonds and create institutional and social change.
I also have insider experience in the publishing industry: I was the Editorial Associate and Permissions Editor for Prometheus Books in Amherst, New York. I was able to see all facets of the publishing industry and understand every author’s challenges not just as writers but as people.
I have published numerous articles and blog posts for StreetPoetz.com. I’ve also contributed to MadintheAttic.org. I have extensive experience in creative writing, copywriting/content writing, copyediting, proofreading, and the Chicago Manual of Style.
In my free time, I train in Krav Maga (black belt), read (obviously), watch anime, and play video games. I also have a child disguised as a cat.

Dear Hanna,
I’ve been trying to phone you, but with no success. Then I went on the Internet a few minutes ago and discovered that Prometheus has been sold…
I’d like to have a chat if you could send me your phone number.
Cheers,
Chris McGowan
